Is 'SNL' on Tonight? Season 46, Episode 5 Host, Musical Guest

There's an ominous knock at the front door disguised as the stress of the 2020 election. Don't open up too quickly, though—there are still a few days to enjoy before the country spirals into voter anxiety if it hasn't already. And, luckily, Saturday Night Live is back to help take the edge off before election day officially arrives on Tuesday.

But why harp on a potentially harrowing future when we can enjoy living right now in the present while reflecting on the good times of the past? Here's to hoping that's the vibe on Saturday's show, especially since a fan favorite is returning as show host for the millionth time.

So, let's get to it. All the info you need to know about the upcoming episode of SNL is rounded up for your ease and comfort below.

Who is hosting?

SNL alum John Mulaney host for the fourth time. Oh, and he's sorry about causing the pandemic.

In the SNL promo for Season 46's fifth episode (above), Mulaney reminds cast member Ego Ewodim that the last time he appeared on the show was in February, just weeks before the coronavirus emerged in the U.S. Daniel Craig got to host the show following Mulany's appearance, but after that, studio production of SNL—like many other shows—was stopped. The SNL team had to finish out the season producing sketches and skits separately from their own homes.

"John Mulaney you cursed us!" Ewodim says in the promo video.

"Yea, sorry about that," Mulaney replies with a wink.

Who is the musical guest?

Yet another SNL repeat—The Strokes are set to take the stage. Similar to Mulaney, their upcoming performance will mark their fourth time appearing on the show as well. It has been a while though since they last performed back in 2011.

More than likely, The Strokes will perform songs from their 2020 album, The New Abnormal, which released back in April. They weren't able to tour back them when the record was first released due to COVID-19 lockdowns, but they're finally getting a chance to rock the stage.

When does SNL air?

The NBC comedy show starts on Saturday night at 11:30 p.m. ET.

Can SNL be live-streamed?

Yes! You can stream the show from NBC's website and app, but you'll need a cable provider login to access it though. Folks with services like Hulu +Live, YouTube TV, Sling and other pay-for streamers can also catch the SNL episode in real-time through their subscriptions.

Meanwhile, all the clips and highlights of the night will be available for viewing on SNL's YouTube shortly after the show, if all you want to see are the best sketches of the night. And if you want to tune into all the SNL chatter, just follow the hashtag, #SNL, on social media.
