Search Underway for Woman Who Shot Man in Head During Road Rage Incident

A search is underway for a woman who allegedly shot a man in the head during a road rage incident in Washington, D.C., early Thursday morning.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers believe the shooting occurred after the woman sideswiped another vehicle on the road that resulted in a dispute between the two drivers.

Police responded to a reported shooting just after 4:30 a.m. near the Naval Observatory on the 3600 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

"Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound," MPD said in a press release.

According to a police report of the incident, a witness who was in the vehicle with the victim told police they were driving northbound on the avenue when they were sideswiped by another vehicle. The witness said both drivers got out of the car and a verbal altercation followed.

The witness said the man and woman got back into their respective cars and continued driving, but the woman then pulled her car in front of their SUV in an attempt to block their path.

When the man attempted to drive around the suspect's vehicle, the woman reportedly pulled out a gun and fired several rounds at the SUV, striking the man in the back of the head, the report states.

MPD seeks assistance in identifying a suspect and vehicle of interest in reference to an Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) offense that occurred on 4/15/21 in the 3600 block of Massachusetts Ave NW.

The victim was conscious and breathing at the time he was taken to a hospital for treatment, although police do not know of his current condition. No information about his identity has been released.

"DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. The adult male sustained life threatening injuries," MPD said.
