See Art, Spare Feet

Like all-you-can-eat-shrimp and "Star Trek" marathons, the Louvre can be too much of a good thing. With eight miles of hallway to traverse and thousands of works of art to view, visitors to the Paris art museum may find the experience more exhausting than edifying. To the rescue comes "Le Louvre: The Palace & Its Paintings" (Montparnasse Multimedia. Windows/Mac hybrid CD-ROM, $49.95.212-782-1000). The disc's cross-referencing provides a richly layered context for each of the 100 paintings discussed; one particularly good feature graphically demonstrates the compositions of selected works. This satisfying virtual tour leaves one wanting.
