How to Watch 'Sesame Street' Explain 'The ABC's of COVID-19' With Your Toddler

Sesame Workshop is increasing its efforts to help kids and parents stay informed and educated during the coronavirus pandemic. In a special collaboration with CNN, the news network will air The ABC's of Covid-19: A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Parents on Saturday.

The 90-minute program will tackle a number of topics kids and parents may be grappling with in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, including anxiety, education, screen time and changes with playdates. Sesame Street characters like Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Rosita and Grover are set to make appearances in the town hall and answer questions submitted by families with the help of medical experts.

Meanwhile, Big Bird is on moderator duty alongside CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Erica Hill, the network's anchor and national news correspondent.

The town hall will air on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET. Viewers can also tune into a live stream of the special on the CNN website's homepage and app—no cable provider login needed. Families with CNNgo can also catch the show On-Demand.

Parents and kids that have questions they'd like to potentially be answered during the program can submit them directly on CNN's website.

Sesame Workshop launched the #CaringForOthers initiative in March to help children become more aware of the societal changes that have come along with the social distancing and shelter-in-place orders that many states are currently under. Elmo was the first of the Sesame Street characters to help out with the campaign by hosting a virtual hangout to keep kids entertained while stuck at home.

Elmo's Playdate aired in early April, during which the lovable red muppet held a Zoom meeting with some of his closest friends, like Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, Rosita and Grover. A few celebrities also joined in on the call, including Lin Manuel Miranda, Tracee Ellis Ross and Anne Hathaway.

Sesame Street's social accounts have been promoting dozens of videos and clips from the #CaringForOthers campaign to help kids better understand some of the feelings they may be experiencing while they're not able to go to school or play with their friends. One such clip featured Rosita explaining how belly-breathing can help kids calm down and feel better when they're frustrated.

Sesame Workshop is also offering resources to help parents keep kids busy and learning during the quarantine.

"Our site is filled with content you can use all day long to spark playful learning, offer children comfort, and focus a bit on yourself, too," the organization's website reads. "After all, it's important that we take care of ourselves, so that we can best care for our families."
