Police Appeal to Female Amputees in Mystery Severed Foot Case

British police have put forward a "very strange request" for female amputees to come forward to help with a long-running investigation following the discovery of a human foot.

Humberside Police have been trying to find the owner of a dismembered foot ever since it was found on a path by an old railway track in the village of New Waltham in Lincolnshire, England, on April 25, 2019.

More than two years later, police still haven't been able to determine where the left foot came from, even after an extensive forensic testing and DNA analysis. The investigation has even seen police investigating missing people locally, nationally and across the world, but to no avail.

In May 2019, Humberside Police determined that the foot belonged to a woman aged over the age of 16 who is around 5 feet 2 inches tall.

One line of enquiry is that the foot may be medical waste after it was removed as part of an operation. In May 2019, pathologists indicated that the foot was likely to have been deliberately dismembered at some point during the previous 12 months.

As part of the ongoing operation, police are now asking all local women who have had a foot amputated over the past few years to come forward to see if they can provide positive identification.

Detective Chief Inspector Al Curtis, who is leading the investigation, said: "Forensic specialists are continuing to assist us with further examination of the foot and small section of lower leg to help establish the circumstances of how it came to be found in the area.

"Although this must seem a very strange request we are now appealing for any female in the Humberside Police Force area and Lincolnshire that has had a medical procedure to remove her left foot since 2014 to contact us.

"The NHS have been able to provide certain information in relation to historical surgeries but this would not include any private medical procedures, so by issuing this appeal now we are hoping to rule out anyone within this category of patient.

"If you have had such a medical procedure in the past eight years whether through the NHS or through private medical services I would ask you to call us, your call will be treated with the utmost respect and privacy.

"I encourage anyone that would be in this category of amputees to contact us."

Humberside Police have been contacted for an update into the investigation.
