'Shadow Of The Tomb Raider' Teased, Release Date Leaks Early

Square Enix released a teaser site for the next Tomb Raider game, and it accidentally reveals many of the game's secrets, including a release date, the date of major reveals and more.

If you go to tombraider.com, you'll be brought to a mostly blank page, with text reading "March 15, 2018 6:00 AM PDT." While that would be exciting for any Tomb Raider fan, reading the page's source code reveals so much more information. As seen in the screenshot below, the title of the game has been confirmed as Shadow of the Tomb Raider , along with a release date of Sept. 14, 2018. We even know the tagline of the game: "Shadow of The Tomb Raider is the climatic finale of Lara's origin story."

The March 15 date promoted by the website is likely just a name reveal, along with a teaser trailer. More information, including the various pre-order bonuses and console versions, will be announced on April 27.

Judging by the source code, it also looks like developer Crystal Dynamics is looking to add some sort of puzzle game or ARG to go along with the Shadow of the Tomb Raider announcement. There are a number of references in the code to "playing a puzzle" as well as level counters. Look for a browser-based game to launch around March 15.

Is there anything else we can learn from this website's source code? Other than an odd dump of some lorem ipsum, it seems we've reached the end. This leaves specific game information, such as where Shadow of the Tomb Raider will take place, still a mystery. Looks like we'll have to wait for either March 15 or April 27 to know more.

So what do you think? Are you excited to hear about the final entry in the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise? Are you more or less excited knowing it will release by the end of the year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
