'Shadow Of The Tomb Raider' Trailer Confirms New Release

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is real, and is releasing on Sept. 14. This news may sound old to some, but it has officially been confirmed by publisher Square Enix. The company also released a teaser trailer, which can be watched above.

Details on Shadow of the Tomb Raider are scarce, but a full reveal event is scheduled for April 27. Some kind of puzzle will also be available to play on tombraider.com starting Monday, March 19 at 12 p.m. EDT. A countdown timer until the reveal event can be found on the Tomb Raider website, along with links to pre-order Shadow of the Tomb Raider for PS4, Xbox One or PC.

Judging by the teaser, it looks like Lara will be travelling somewhere in South America. It appears she's in a lush jungle setting, and the Mesoamerican pyramids at the end looks like Mayan ruins. Of course, Lara will be going toe-to-toe with some scary-looking dudes with guns, too. The only weapon we see Lara use in the trailer is her trusty bow (with a flaming arrow) so there's nothing terribly new to see there.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was no surprise thanks to a series of unconfirmed rumors. The game's name was first spotted back in 2016, but it was a blurry picture from an unknown source. Artwork for Shadow of the Tomb Raider again popped up in 2017 on a marketing agency's website. The marketing images all appear to be real, as they depict Mayan-style ruins, just like the trailer.

One interesting thing about Shadow of the Tomb Raider's release is there will be no timed-exclusivity for any console like previous games in the franchise. The Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions will all release simultaneously on Sept. 14.
