'Pokémon Let's Go:' How to Catch Shiny Pokémon Using Catch Combos

Encountering and catching a Shiny Pokémon is one of the most exhilarating aspects of any Pokémon game.

In Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee , Shiny Pokémon return, and there's a brand new way of hunting for them that's easier but perhaps more time-consuming. As you make your way across Kanto you'll encounter NPCs that discuss a new method of catching Pokémon called Catch Combos.

Trainers will notice Catch Combos when catching the same species of Pokémon. Catch Combos do a variety of things including: Having a higher chance of encountering a Pokémon with higher IVs or a higher chance to encounter a Shiny Pokémon.

Since this is the Shiny Pokémon guide, we'll be focusing on the Shiny aspect of Catch Combos in Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee.

HOW TO CATCH SHINY POKEMON IN LET'S GO

In Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, the Wild Pokémon appear in the overworld, which means a Pokémon in its Shiny form will as well. This makes it easier to spot it and try to catch it.

Like in every Pokémon game there are odds to encountering a Shiny Pokémon. The full odds for Shiny Pokémon appearing is 1 in 4096, but those odds can be improved using the Catch Combo system.

A Catch Combo is when a trainer catches the same Pokémon species over and over again without fail. This mean catching multiple Weedle, for example, in succession. Catching them will increase your Catch Combo, which will be displayed in the capture screen.

There are a few factors that can break your Catch Combo.

  • Running Away from a battle with that species
  • That Pokémon running away from you
  • Catching a Pokémon from another species

Now, you CAN run away from a capture if it's not the species you're comboing. So if you're trying to combo Weedle and you accidentally run into a Caterpie, you can run away from it and your combo will remain intact.

Leaving the route also does not break the combo. Lures also give trainers an extra roll in finding a Shiny Pokémon.

So as you continue your combo, your odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon increases. The hard numbers are still a bit iffy, but according to Serebii the odds seem to be as follows:

0-10 = 1 in 4096

11-20 combo = 1 in 1024

21-30 = 1 in 512

31 + = 1 in 341.3

With a Lure active, the rates are:

0 - 10 combo = 1 in 2048

11-20 = 1 in 819

21- 30 = 1 in 455

31+ = 1 in 315

If you want to increase your Shiny odds even further, you can pick up the Shiny Charm after catching every Pokémon in the PokéDex then heading to Celadon City to talk to the Game Freak guys.

The Shiny Charm will drastically increase the odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon. If the numbers above are accurate, these are the new Shiny Odds while holding the Shiny Charm:

0 - 10 combo = 1 in 1365

11-20 = 1 in 682

21- 30 = 1 in 410

31+ = 1 in 293

With the Lure and Shiny Charm, the rates are:

0 - 10 combo = 1 in 1024

11-20 = 1 in 585

21- 30 = 1 in 372

31+ = 1 in 273
