A Texas mom's apology for sending her son to school in an X-rated McDonald's parody T-shirt last week has gone viral.

Shelly McCullar, 43, sent her son Anthony to school at Travis Elementary in a McDonald's T-shirt on Wednesday. Or she thought.

When the mother took a closer look at the shirt that had "I'm lovin it" printed under the famous golden arches, McCullar realized the logo was actually a pair of parted legs wearing heels.

"Once again, my sincere apologies to the teachers and staff at Travis Elementary. I promise from now on to monitor what my kids are wearing! I had no idea Anthony wore this to school!" McCullar wrote in a Facebook post last Wednesday, which has now gone viral.

She added: "Just to clarify, I would never let my kid wear something like this. A friend had given me some hand-me-down clothes for Anthony. I haven't had the chance to completely go through them. I will tonight though!"

The social media post has received more than 89,000 likes and more than 100,000 shares.

Alongside the public apology, McCullar also shared a video of Anthony in the shirt. "I thought it was McDonald's" the young boy said in the clip while wearing the oversized X-rated shirt.

McCullar then asked him if any of his teachers stopped him. "No, they thought it was McDonald's too," he replied.

Most social media users found the post hilarious, however some criticized McCullar for uploading the story to Facebook and publicly shaming her son.

"Funny!! but mums not too embarrassed to put it on National media and embarrass her innocent son," one wrote.

Another added: "So, in even worse taste, you thought it was funny to post on a public domain, a picture of your son wearing this shirt? Smh."
