'Smash Ultimate' Tier List: ZeRo Rates Little Mac the Worst Character in the Game

ZeRo, one of the best and most respected members of the competitive Smash community, has uploaded his most recent tier list for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In the 16-minute video, which is actually part one of a series, ZeRo breaks down who he believes are the best fighters in Smash Ultimate in version 2.0/2.1. He has his own criteria for his tier list, and tells his viewers that this is what he believes and where he thinks the meta is going. So if he feels a certain character is about to get nerfed in the next patch, for example, that doesn't affect his current tier list because it's meant to represent how good each fighter is right now.

He looked at three criteria for each fighter when making his list. The first is how good is their recovery. This is crucial to staving off death when knocked off a stage as well as being aggressive when edge guarding.

The second is Punish Game and Optimization, which essentially means how easy they are to use and their damage output. If a character's combos are basic and there isn't a lot of ways to extend and deal a lot of damage then they are ranked lower.

Finally, the third criteria is Kill Setups. This is self-explanatory as it grades how well a fighter can set up a kill.

ZeRo goes into more details on his criteria in the video. Watch the first part, which explains the Bottom and Low Tiers - the worst characters in the game - below.

Little Mac

This tier was created strictly for one character and that is Little Mac. ZeRo goes into scathing detail as to what makes the boxer from the Bronx the worst character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Not only is the recovery bad - players already knew that - but ZeRo feels that he doesn't do enough damage to even be considered a glass cannon. ZeRo believes that Little Mac is worse in Smash Ultimate than he was in Smash 4.

Mr. Game & Watch

ZeRo believes this character is too light and doesn't deal enough damage. His aerial attacks are too slow to properly set up kills.

Piranha Plant

Piranha Plant is only slightly better than Game & Watch because it's a heavier character. However, Piranha Plant is too slow for dash attacks as its aerials are too slow. Its specials don't give it a way to excel in any one playstyle.

Bowser Jr.

Bowser Jr. doesn't deal enough damage to be useful and there is no potential for set ups with any of his moves. What makes him slightly better than the others is that his recovery is better.

ZeRo believes Ridley isn't the worst character because of power potential as well as the set ups from his throws but what holds the villain back is its size and lack of weight. ZeRo points out that Samus is heavier than Ridley, and the Space Pirate's height mean it can be hit by almost anything.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
