Snapchat Won't Refresh, Servers Down, Not Working

Snapchat users were having issues with the app Tuesday afternoon, with many getting error messages that said the app could not connect to the servers. Others received a message that said the app cannot refresh.

More than 1,000 users reported the issues with the app to the website Down Detector. Those users cited issues sending and receiving snaps as well as refreshing their feeds or solely opening the app in the first place. The map on the site showed than many of the reports were coming from users in Europe, though they also came from users in the United States.

Snapchat tweeted from its support account Tuesday shortly after 2 p.m. ET to assure users that the company was aware of the issues and was working on a fix. The support account also recommended that users stay logged in to their accounts while the app was down.

Users flocked to Twitter to check whether or not they were alone in experiencing issues loading and connecting to the app. There, they found plenty of other users struggling with the photo- and video-sharing platform.

The outage didn't do much to help boost the confidence of users who are upset with Snapchat for the redesigned app that many find difficult to use.

Some users speculated that the app was down because the company was adding an update or reverting back to the older layout.

It was unclear Tuesday afternoon what caused the server issues or how long they would last.
