'So Adorable': Viral Video Shows Cat's 'Unusual Bond' With Prairie Dog

A video that shows one cat's "unusual bond" with a prairie dog has delighted the internet.

The video was posted to Reddit's "Aww" forum on Thursday by u/ecky--ptang-zooboing. Already, the post has amassed more than 45,000 upvotes and over 400 comments from Redditors who couldn't get enough of the now-viral moment.

In the 14-second clip, a cat wraps its arms around a prairie dog as the prairie dog licks the cat's head. The cat then begins to groom the prairie dog in return.

Once the cat notices it's being filmed, it stops grooming the prairie dog and stares at the camera. But it eventually closes its eyes. Ultimately, the video ends with the two creatures asleep and cuddled up in each other's arms.

As previously stated, commenters thought the video was "adorable."

"SOMEBODY MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THIS NOW!!! THIS IS SO F***ING ADORABLE," wrote Redditor u/Bombastic-BadMan.

"So cute! What a sweet pair," commented u/MissWeaverOfYarns.

"I cannot even handle this level of cuteness!" exclaimed u/tuxofthurst.

Redditor u/jacobhumston added: "This is so sweet...The fact that the cat is hugging the little guy is making me wanna scream awwww!!"

One commenter under the username u/CraisyDaisy claimed that they once adopted a pet prairie dog that formed a close bond with their cat.

"I had a prairie dog once, he was very good friends with my cat. Our cat loved to snuggle and gently wrestle with him," they said. "This was easily 20 years ago and it's still one of my favorite memories."

"That is adorable," responded u/longliveHIM.

Interestingly enough, another prairie dog/cat duo made headlines several years ago for their unique friendship.

Posting under the name Sanders Zoo, Mattie Sanders shared a video on Instagram in 2017 that showed their pet kitten grooming one of their pet prairie dogs, Otis.

"Otis has a new best friend," the post's caption read.

Writing for VCA Animal Hospitals, Rick Axelson, DVM said that prairie dogs can make great pets.

"They are active, playful and sturdy rodents and can make wonderful, affectionate pets if purchased young, socialized properly and given lots of attention," Axelson said. "However, they do demand a lot of care and attention so prairie dogs represent a significant commitment."

Axelson went on to say that prairie dogs are very social creatures that often greet one another with a "kiss." Unless a person has the ability to spend copious amounts of time with their prairie dog, Axelson recommends pet owners invest in adopting multiple, so that they can keep each other company.
