‘SoulCalibur VI’ Roster Rumored to Include Geralt from ‘The Witcher’

A new SoulCalibur VI rumor says Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series will be the guest character for the upcoming fighting game.

The rumor started on Resetera, where an anonymous post claimed the upcoming fighting game from Bandai Namco will have 39 slots and Geralt will be the guest character. This rumor went largely unnoticed until Marcin Momot, Community Lead for Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, took to Twitter to discuss the possibility of Geralt showing up in a game later this year.

With SoulCalibur VI pegged for a 2018 release, Momot’s tweet gives more weight to the Resetera rumor. Let’s Play Video Games came out with its own report shortly after Momot’s tweet, adding more fuel to the fire. “A few weeks ago, anonymous sources contacted LPVG with this information. However, while we have vetted the sources to be legitimate, acquiring the further evidence required for publication proved difficult. Until today, that is,” said the site’s co-Editor-in-Chief, Joe Parlock.

Parlock also pointed out Bandai Namco and CD Projekt Red have a working relationship, as Namco helped distribute The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The SoulCalibur franchise has a long history of featuring guest characters from other franchises. SoulCalibur II saw console exclusive guest characters Link, Spawn and Hiashi from Tekken added to its roster. Darth Vader and Yoda from Star Wars were brought on for SoulCalibur IV and Ezio from Assassin’s Creed was the guest character in SoulCalibur V.

If Geralt is indeed the guest character for SoulCalibur VI, his aesthetics and fighting style will mesh  well with the franchise’s arena weapon battle system. Currently, SoulCalibur VI has eight confirmed characters, including Mitsurugi, Ivy, Nightmare, Kilik, Sophitia, Xianghua, Groh and Zasalamel.

SoulCalibur VI will release in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
