Powerful AI models are becoming available to more companies, raising a difficult question for business leaders: Where does competitive advantage come from when rivals can use much of the same technology?

The answer increasingly depends on what organizations know, how effectively they use that information and whether their AI investments change the way they operate.

Firdaus Bhathena, executive vice president and chief technology and transformation officer at S&P Global, will explore what it takes to put those capabilities to work in the next installment of Newsweek’s “AI Impact Forum” webinar series, “What Enterprise AI Looks Like When It Works.”

Bhathena will join host Dr. Ranjit Tinaikar for the live conversation on Wednesday, November 4, at 11 a.m. Eastern.

More AI pilots don't automatically mean better business results. What should leaders do differently? Join S&P Global's Firdaus Bhathena and Dr. Ranjit Tinaikar on November 4 to find out. Register for free.

The discussion comes as companies face growing pressure to demonstrate what their AI investments are accomplishing. Experimentation has given organizations opportunities to test new capabilities, but turning those efforts into sustained business improvements requires difficult decisions about technology, data, employees and customers.

S&P Global provides financial information, analytics and other intelligence used by businesses and investors to make consequential decisions. As AI changes how information is collected, analyzed and delivered, S&P and its competitors must consider what makes their offerings valuable when sophisticated analytical tools become more accessible.

Bhathena’s responsibilities span technology and transformation at S&P Global. Before joining the company, he held senior technology leadership positions at FIS Global and CVS Health, giving him experience with large-scale technology initiatives across financial services and health care.

One focus of his discussion with Tinaikar will be the growing importance of trusted, differentiated data. Organizations need to understand where information comes from, establish its quality and ensure it can be used consistently across applications and business functions.

Data governance will also be part of the conversation, including how executives can trace AI-supported decisions back to their sources and maintain confidence in the outputs.

Moving beyond individual pilots can require a more fundamental look at how work gets done. Rather than adding AI to familiar routines, companies have to decide which processes should be redesigned and what that means for the people responsible for them.

Employees may be asked to reconsider responsibilities they’ve held for years. The conversation will explore how leaders can involve teams in identifying opportunities, build support for unfamiliar ways of working and determine whether those changes are delivering meaningful improvements.

Bhathena and Tinaikar will also explore the balance between moving quickly and maintaining the security, resilience and trust that established businesses depend on.
