New 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' Trailer Debuts Three Familiar Villains
A new trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse has arrived, and it's all-around sharp; fast-paced action, smart comedy, immersive visuals and interesting characters.

The footage begins with a proper introduction to Miles Morales (voiced by The Get Down's Shameik Moore), a young kid who thinks he's the only Spider-Man in New York City. We're quickly introduced to another, older Spider-Man, Peter Parker (voiced by New Girl's Jake Johnson), who offers a helping hand. And at the end, we're even gifted with a surprise: Spider-Gwen (voiced by Bumblebee's Hailee Steinfeld).

There's also some villainous introductions, and we've seen them all in live-action. We spotted Green Goblin, played by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. There's also a brief shot of Kingpin, played by Vincent D'Onofrio in Daredevil. And last but not least there's The Prowler, played by Donald Glover in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The last is poised to be the most interesting because in the comic books and the live-action movie, The Prowler (a.k.a. Aaron Davis) is actually the uncle of Miles Morales. In fact, it was Aaron's criminal activities that resulted in Miles getting bit by a spider in the first place.

The Prowler is voiced here by none other than Moonlight oscar-winner Mahershala Ali. Ray Donovan actor Liev Schreiber is sure to scare the heck out of everyone as the voice of Kingpin. It's unclear who is voicing Green Goblin, but look forward to Atlanta star Brian Tyree Henry as Miles' father, How To Get Away With Murder 's Luna Lauren Velez as Miles' mother and Grace and Frankie's Lily Tomlin as Aunt May.

22 Jump Street duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller produced the film; Lord also did the screenplay. The film is directed by Bob Persichetti (Puss in Boots), Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians), and Rodney Rothman Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Miles Morales was originally created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli and the film is largely inspired by their work.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters December 18.
