'Splatoon 2' X Rank Details and Schedule Changes Revealed

The new X Rank in Splatoon 2 is just one update coming to the Nintendo Switch title. The official Splatoon Tumblr released information on the changes made to ranked mode, including how X Rank is determined, information on when players should expect version 3.0, and how the schedule for new weapons and stages will change after the upcoming update.

HOW TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN X RANK

Players ranked S+10 and above in the current system will be re-registered as X Rank. This new rank will be for the best and most experienced players, and only one percent of current players (as of Feb. 20) will qualify.

The Splatoon 2 3.0 update will go live in April, so those who are ranked S+10 or higher won't have to worry. After that, players will have to rank up from S+9 to make it into X Rank.

However, maintaining an X Rank in Splatoon 2 will not be easy. Players in this tier will battle for X Power instead of Rank Meter. Players with similar X Power levels will be matched together, even within the same rank of X Rank.

X Power will reset to "Calculating" status once a month. During the time of the reset, players whose X Power ended up lower than a set threshold will rank down to S+9 and will have to rank up again in the next cycle. However, if X Power drops far enough, players may rank down immediately rather than at the monthly reset time.

WEAPON UPDATES AND TIMELINE CHANGES

New weapons currently come to Splatoon 2 approximately once a week, but the 3.0 update makes it more likely that several weapons will be released once a month. Stages will also likely debut once a month alongside the monthly reset.

Splatoon 2 version 3.0 will arrive in late April, with the first X Power reset scheduled for May 31. After the first one, players should expect another reset on the final day of every month.
