The first El Clasico of the season will not take place on the pitch but in the transfer market.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are reported to want Valencia's Andre Gomes ahead of the new La Liga season.

Barcelona has been a long-term admirer of the Portugal midfielder, but has now been joined in the race for his signature by rivals Real.

Gomes is currently on duty for the national team, which is due to face Wales in the semi-final of Euro 2016 on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old's performances at the Mestalla over the past year have attracted suitors from Europe's most competitive leagues.

Chelsea and Manchester United are believed to be interested in Gomes, while Juventus is reported to have had a €40 million (£34/$44 million) bid rejected.

But Real manager Zinedine Zidane is said to have made Gomes his number one target for the summer.

Valencia is believed to want €65 million (£56/$72 million) for the star.
