Jose Mourinho is looking to reunite with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane by bringing the Frenchman to Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.

Mourinho , the new United manager, worked with Varane during his three-year spell at the Bernabeu from 2010 through 2013, promoting him to the first-team.

The Portuguese manager has already signed a defender for United, bringing 22-year-old Eric Bailly to Old Trafford from Villarreal in a deal believed to be worth £30 million ($39 million).

But Mourinho is said to want to add more talent to his back line in the shape of Varane, who missed France's Euro 2016 tournament this summer with an injury.

Spanish newspaper Marca believes Varane will reject any attempts by United, preferring to remain at the Bernabeu with the Champions League holders.

Mourinho has already brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to United, and is believed to be on the verge of capturing Paul Pogba from Juventus for £100 million ($132 million).
