Jose Mourinho has reportedly ruled out a transfer deadline day exit for Bastian Schweinsteiger at Manchester United, despite ostracizing the German from the first-team in the summer.

In August, the Manchester United manager made it clear to Schweinsteiger that he did not feature in Mourinho's plans at Old Trafford, but has since featured three times for the club.

On Sunday, Schweinsteiger played and scored in United's 4-0 win over Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round, and is due to now stay at the club until at least the summer.

"He's staying and he's going to the Europa League list," Mourinho told reporters, including ESPN, on Sunday. "There are spaces from Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin [leaving] and we don't have many players and many options in midfield.

"He was a good professional when he was not playing and he is going to be the same, good professional. With so many competitions and minutes [for United to play], he's an option."

Schweinsteiger, 32, spent the majority of his career at Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, where he won the German title eight times, as well as the Champions League in 2013.
