Jurgen Klopp has looked to continue his spending spree at Liverpool but has seen a £33 million bid to Sporting Lisbon for Joao Mario rejected.

The Portuguese midfielder, who was part of the winning Euro 2016 squad, has appeared as a target for Klopp as he prepares for the new Premier League season.

Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum have arrived at Anfield this summer for a combined total of £55 million ($72 million) but Klopp has looked to make Mario another big-money signing, according to the player's father.

"Proposals for the lad don't come directly from me," Mario's father told Portuguese paper Diario de Noticias. "They go to his agent, Kia Joorabchian, and the Sporting president. I was informed, however, that the club said no to €35 million (£29/$38 million) plus €10 million (£8/$11 million) in bonuses from Inter and to €40 million (£33 million) from Liverpool."

Klopp is currently in California on Liverpool's pre-season tour ahead of the new season.
