Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp's push for a Champions League spot could be disrupted by the prospect of Sadio Mane being sidelined for the rest of the season, according to reports.

Mane, one of Liverpool's most influential players this season, had to be taken off during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday after damaging his knee.

The extent of the 24-year-old's injury is still inconclusive due to swelling, but according to The Times, Mane may still need an operation that would end his season.

The Senegalese forward has scored 13 times in 29 appearances for Klopp's team since joining from Southampton in the summer for a fee believed to be around £34 million (about $42 million).

According to the report, Liverpool hopes to know the extent from the injury within the next 24 hours.

Liverpool is third in the Premier League table, six points clear of fifth place Manchester United—but Jose Mourinho's team has two games in advance.

Klopp's side hosts Eddie Howe's Bournemouth on Wednesday before traveling to Stoke on Saturday.
