Wayne Rooney Going to China Would Be 'Madness,' Says Manchester United Icon

Roy Keane believes the prospect of Wayne Rooney quitting Manchester United for the big-spending Chinese Super League is "madness."

Rooney, 31, has not started a Premier League game for Manchester United since December, having to settle for a place on the bench under José Mourinho for much of the season.

The Manchester United captain is believed to be frustrated over his lack of playing time, and reports have linked him with a lucrative move to Asia.

"Going to China is madness, he's 31 years old and there's plenty left for Wayne Rooney to do at the top level in Europe," Keane said Wednesday, as a pundit for ITV.

"I don't think he's short of money, is he?"

Rooney was not in Mourinho's squad for the 1-0 win over St-Etienne on Wednesday night, a victory that saw United progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.

The England captain is currently injured and is expected to miss the EFL Cup final against Southampton on Sunday.
