Real Madrid has reached an "agreement in principle" with A.S. Monaco to sign 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe for a world record £161 million, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported Tuesday morning that La Liga champion Real was prepared to pay 180 million euros for the young Frenchman who shot to fame in European football last season.

The biggest clubs across the continent were reported to have shown a strong interest in the forward, including Paris Saint Germain, Arsenal and Manchester City.

But the lure of the Bernabeu, as well as a world record transfer fee, seems to have been too hard to resist for the Ligue 1 club and Mbappe. The deal would surpass the current record, held by Manchester United after signing Paul Pogba last season, by £70 million.

He helped take Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season, as well as the Champions League semifinal. Take a look at Mbappe's highlights:
