One moment, Alysa Liu is in New York City, appearing on a late-night talk show.

Next, she's back in Oakland, getting a hometown celebration in honor of her winning double gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games. A day later, she's on a morning show, then on the cover of a nationally syndicated magazine, and by dinner she's on television again during primetime.

More news: Alysa Liu Says She Was ‘Almost Mad’ Her Dad Was Happy About Her Comeback

After announcing she will not be defending her title at the upcoming Figure Skating World Championships in Prague, Liu jetted off to Paris for Fashion Week, exploring one of the many new opportunities afforded to her after a breakout Olympics.

Although what was discussed between them will be kept private unless revealed at a later date, it's just another magical moment for Liu, who returned to the sport two years ago after retiring at 16.

When she quit figure skating, Liu was at her lowest, feeling like every aspect of her life was under the thumb of her coaches or father.

But since returning and making it a point to be the one steering her career, she's reached unprecedented heights, finding love for the sport she once deemed a "job" that took away from the rest of her life.

Before, she would have had no choice but to compete at the World Championships after winning the Olympics.

Now, though, Liu makes the rules. And instead of practicing the same routines she already starred in at the Olympics, she's in Paris, broadening her cultural reach and finding joy in the process.
