Earlier this week rumors of LIV Golf's imminent demise ran rampant after the Financial Times reported that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which invested more than $5 billion into LIV Golf since its first tournament in June 2022, was on the verge of cutting funding.

In the end, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil revealed that the league will complete the 2026 season, but questions about its future after that remain a mystery. However, O'Neil touted the "momentum" of the business moving forward.

"Given the momentum of this business, we're really excited about where we are and the position where we are," he said. "... This notion of bringing teams to market, I had two calls this morning. While he's excited about the future, O'Neil admitted the league is funded through the 2026 season, but not beyond.

"The reality is you're funded through the season and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to keep us going," he said during Thursday's broadcast of the opening round in Mexico City. "But that's not different from any other private equity-funded business in the history of man."

LIV Golf projected 10 of the 13 teams and four of the 14 events will be profitable.
