Early on Saturday morning Xander Schauffele started climbing up the leaderboard at the Open Championship after two mediocre – at least by his standards – rounds of golf at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
Schauffele made the cut by just one shot and sat even par heading into the weekend, but managed to card a four-under, 66 to find himself just four shots off the lead of Lucas Herbert at the end of his round. But the two-time major winner still lost by four shots to his playing partner, Ryan Fox, who tied major championship history with an eight-under, 62.
"You'd take a 62 anywhere," Schauffele said."If it's in a major, it's a cherry on top. But on a Saturday, it's even better. He came out hot. He was hitting it close, making the putts he should make."

Schauffele admitted the conditions provided a slight advantage for those in the earlier wave.
"The wind was down when we were playing and it was kind of overcast, so I thought it was a little bit softer than before, and he played amazing, and I was just trying to hop on whatever wave he was on to the best of my ability," he said.
Schauffele hasn't finished outside the top 12 in the past five major tournaments, but needs to close strong on Sunday to keep that streak alive as he currently sits at three-under and in a tie for 23rd.
