How to Watch USC at Notre Dame

Read More on Sports

No. 20 USC has regained its ranking ahead of Saturday’s visit to No. 13 Notre Dame, with the rivalry matchup set to have plenty of sway in deciding who might challenge for a College Football Playoff. And both teams can afford to feel some sense of chagrin that their records don’t look a little better entering the business stage of the season.

The Fighting Irish started this season 0-2 following losses to Miami and Texas A&M, with the combined losing margin from those defeats totalling just four points. And the Trojans might have gone undefeated thus far, were it not for a late slip-up against Illinois, which resulted in a two-point loss.

Mistakes were made, however, and USC head coach Lincoln Riley has the right response in a much more stringent performance, beating Michigan last week. Notre Dame has also done the right thing after some introspection and is currently riding a four-win streak as it looks to beat USC for the third time running.

Despite that win over the Wolverines, the CJ Carr-led offense of Notre Dame will present an entirely different kind of pressure. Likewise, Carr’s credentials will be examined in detail against a pass rush that’s earned the Trojans their warrior reputation this term.
