The New York Mets have underachieved immensely this season and will be sellers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline.
The Mets are currently at the bottom of the NL East with a 43-62 record. With this, they have several trade candidates to keep an eye on between now and deadline day.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Sahadev Sharma listed Mets pitchers Clay Holmes and Freddy Peralta as two possible trade targets for the Chicago Cubs.

With the Cubs needing to boost their starting rotation immensely, it makes sense that they are being viewed as a potential suitor for Holmes and Peralta. They both would have the potential to strengthen the Cubs' pitching staff as they look to go on a run this postseason.
Holmes has missed a good chunk of this season due to a fractured right fibula, but he is inching closer to his return. The 33-year-old pitched excellently for the Mets before getting injured, as evidenced by his 2.39 ERA and 45 strikeouts in nine appearances. He also had a 12-8 record and a 3.53 ERA in 33 appearances during the 2025 season with New York. With numbers like these, he would be a nice pickup for the Cubs if acquired.
As for Peralta, the 6-foot righty has struggled this campaign with the Mets. He currently has a 5-9 record and a 5.01 ERA in 21 appearances. Yet, when noting that the two-time All-Star just had a 17-6 record and 2.70 ERA just last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, he could be a good pitcher for Chicago to take a chance on.
