Every team makes minor-league signings at this time of year, but the Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly making a very interesting one.
In fact, it's the second time the Blue Jays are bringing in Eloy Jiménez, the former all-world prospect whose major league career went sideways after a promising start, in the last three months.
According to a report from Mike Rodríguez, a Dominican Republic-based baseball journalist, Jiménez and the Blue Jays agreed Sunday on a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training in Florida next month.

Jiménez was the co-headliner alongside Dylan Cease in the 2016 trade that sent Craig Kimbrel from the Chicago White Sox to the Chicago Cubs. But while Cease just got $210 million from the Blue Jays to join the rotation for the next seven years, Jiménez is hoping to get back to the majors for the first time since 2024.
In 2019, Jiménez hit 31 home runs and finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting. But his 122 games that season marked what is still a career-high, as a series of injuries set him back, eventually resulting in the White Sox trading him to the Baltimore Orioles for little-known pitching prospect Trade McGough at the 2024 deadline.
Jiménez played 54 games this past season in the Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays organizations and only managed a .673 OPS and three home runs. However, the Blue Jays were likely intrigued by his solid recent performance in the Dominican Winter League, where he has been playing for Toros del Este.
While Toronto's lineup is already one of the most loaded in all of baseball, Jiménez will hope this opportunity helps him return to the majors this year, whether it's in a Blue Jays uniform or someone else's.
