Redemption is the clear theme of the season for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Redemption for finishing in last place in the American League East a year ago. Redemption for failing to win a single game in the Wild Card Series the two years before that. This is Toronto's chance to right every wrong of the 2020s so far.
Entering Monday, the Blue Jays led the East by four games over the New York Yankees with the tiebreaker in hand. They have their sights set on a trip to the World Series, a place they haven't been since Joe Carter's infamous walk-off home run in 1993.

But folks in Toronto aren't the only ones who foresee the Blue Jays making it that far.
On Monday, ESPN published a survey of anonymous players, scouts, and executives, asking who the postseason favorites were in each league. The Blue Jays narrowly received the most votes, and an anonymous rival player explained why he chose Toronto as the "team to beat" in the junior circuit.
"They're one of the most rounded teams in the AL," the player said, per ESPN. "They have some experience, especially in the rotation, and have a little bit of everything in the lineup. That's tough to contend with in a series. I just think they have the most complete team."
The Blue Jays received six of the 19 votes as the "team to beat" among fellow AL contenders, so the results were far from unanimous. The Detroit Tigers were up next with five, and the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox received three apiece.
Toronto would give itself a major advantage by locking up the division, and with it, a first-round bye to advance straight to the Division Series. The Jays haven't made it as far as the ALDS since 2016.
