The Cardinals' offense has been one of the best in baseball at the start of the season, but the bullpen has been their Achilles' heel. The Cardinals are 2-11 on the road this season, during which the pitching staff has allowed 83 runs in road games compared to an 8-4 record at Busch Stadium, where they've allowed 35 runs. In a season in which the organization is giving runway to its young position players, this offense is a pleasant surprise.
According to MLB.com's John Denton, Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol is remaining patient with the arms in his bullpen.
"We have to get these guys better and the only way is for them to pitch," Marmol said in a postgame interview on Fanduel Sports Network.
The solution to the Cardinals' bullpen struggles rests in the arms they currently have. The team is counting on these pitchers to rebound and return to their form of last season, when the bullpen held the seventh-best ERA in Major League Baseball. The Cardinals will remain patient with the core group in hopes they can find calmer seas and support the offense before the season slips away.
