On April 16, 2024, Milwaukee Brewers star outfielder Christian Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain and underwent a microdiscectomy in August. Yelich was limited to 73 games that season.

The Brewers are bracing against déjà vu after a troubling development on Sunday.

According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Yelich, 34, exited Milwaukee's 8-6 loss to the Washington Nationals with "left hamstring tightness."

"We're most likely going to get some bad news on Yelich," Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters after the game, Milwaukee's fifth straight loss.

Murphy relayed that Yelich felt a "little twinge" and would undergo imaging, but early indications are worrisome: "There is some fluid in there, so let's wait and see. He wanted to stay in the game, but [...] we've just got to be careful with these guys. We're in April."

Yelich set MLB on fire after Miami traded him in January 2018. The three-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger was named the 2018 NL MVP and won back-to-back NL batting titles in 2018 and 2019.

In April 2024, GQ's Matthew Roberson asked Yelich if he ever compares himself to his 2018-19 self.

“I mean, look, they were great years, and it was great experiencing them, but I don't think you can keep chasing the dragon," Yelich said. "Each year has to be its own thing. How you move, how your body moves, how the game is, it's different than it was six years ago, so you don't want to watch stuff from that year and try to copy it. My whole thing is just to be the best version of you this year, whatever that is."

This year has gotten off to a rough start for the Brewers.

Last week, imaging showed that Brewers outfielder Jackson Churio's middle finger fracture "is healing," per MLB.com's Adam McClavy, while Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn had stitches removed after having a fractured bone surgically removed from his hand on March 30. That's positive, but they still remain out.

With Yelich's latest injury news, it may be a while still before the Brewers are at full strength.

Yelich has batted .327/.389/.469 with one home run and 10 RBI through 14 games.

While Yelich hasn't reached his highest heights in recent years, he was a core piece of the Brewers' all-time club-best 97-65 record and NL Central title last season. Milwaukee will need him to make any kind of push in 2026.
