The Chicago Cubs have been stockpiling pitching depth in the middle of a very exciting week of transactions.
Trading for former Miami Marlins standout Edward Cabrera and reportedly poaching Alex Bregman from the Boston Red Sox were the two highlights of the Cubs' offseason so far. But every transaction matters, and as it’s looked to bolster the pitching staff it'll bring to spring training, Chicago reportedly added yet another intriguing arm.
According to a Monday report from Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports, Chicago and right-hander Corbin Martin agreed on a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training in Arizona next month.

Martin, 30, has four partial seasons of major league experience under his belt. He pitched for the Houston Astros in 2019, the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021 and 2022, and the Baltimore Orioles last season. In his 75 2/3 major league innings, he's racked up 76 strikeouts, but has pitched to a 6.54 ERA.
Martin also had a rough season in Triple-A for the Orioles organization this past season, totaling 25 earned runs allowed across 38 2/3 innings of work. But the Cubs love a good reclamation project, and Martin's fastball, which can be seen in the clip below, has an interesting shape that could generate more swings and misses with tweaks to his arsenal.
Chicago has added lefties Hoby Milner, Caleb Thielbar, and Ryan Rolison, plus righties Hunter Harvey and Jacob Webb, to the 40-man roster since the regular season ended. Their non-roster additions on top of Martin include righties Sam Mettert, Collin Snider, and reportedly Tyler Beede.
It should be a competitive spring training as the Cubs look to build their perfect bullpen to kick off what they believe can be a special season.
