The Chicago Cubs are entering this offseason with a clear goal of improving their starting rotation.

The Cubs' starting rotation was not good enough this season, and they have multiple pitchers who are pending free agents. Thus, there is an expectation that they will be in the mix for multiple free agent pitchers during the offseason. Due to this, the Cubs are now being connected to an All-Star starter.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden named the Cubs among the best potential landing spots for Cleveland Guardians star pitcher Foster Griffin this offseason.

With Chicago desperately needing to strengthen its starting rotation, it makes sense that Bowden is urging them to bring in Griffin. He broke out and became a star this season, so he would be a major pickup for a Cubs team that needs at least one very good starting pitcher.

In 31 games this season split between the Washington Nationals and Guardians, Griffin posted a 15-6 record, a 3.60 ERA, and 158 strikeouts. However, he notably had a 12-3 record and a 3.06 ERA in 22 games with the Nationals before being traded to the Guardians. With this, he has demonstrated that he can pitch well in the National League and could grab the Cubs' attention. He is exactly the kind of pitcher that Chicago should consider making a push for.
