The Arizona Diamondbacks have rebuilt their starting rotation, but the top of it is still missing someone who can be a true ace. Arizona could choose to add one through free agency or via trade.
As of Friday evening, the Diamondbacks had not been heavily connected to any of the major names being floated around by insiders. However, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes they could be an organization that appears out of nowhere to land Philadelphia Phillies starter Ranger Suarez.

"With Merrill Kelly brought back after he was traded to the Texas Rangers at the deadline and Michael Soroka inked to a one-year, $7.5 million deal, the D-backs have already added to an in-house group of arms that includes Ryne Nelson, Eduardo Rodríguez and Brandon Pfaadt," Reuter wrote. "If they don't get any traction in their pursuit of a bat, they could pivot to the starting pitching market, and Suárez would be an especially attractive target on a short-term, high-AAV deal."
The Diamondbacks would ideally love to support Ketel Marte in the lineup and add an elite pitcher, but the odds of doing both are frankly very slim. Reuter believes the bat is the priority, but things can change on a moment's notice in the offseason.
Suarez would make a lot of sense for Arizona at the top of its rotation along with Rodriguez and Kelly. Kelly could be used between Rodriguez and Suarez to break up having two left-handed pitchers at the top of their starting rotation.
If the Diamondbacks can work out a deal for Suarez, their pitching staff would be significantly better and would help them try to get back to the playoffs.
