The Toronto Blue Jays are 13-15 to start the season. If the trade deadline gets close, and they are still not a realistic postseason contender, they could move on from some pending free agents.

Bo Bichette is one of the Blue Jays' best players, but he is going to be a free agent after the season. He signed a three-year, $33 million deal in 2023, but his next deal will be far more lucrative. He has led the American League in hits twice and is a two-time All-Star.

FanSided's Edward Eng suggested Bichette could be dealt before the Blue Jays potentially lose him in free agency. He noted that Bichette's lack of power could make him less valuable than what he is seeking, which is to be paid among other elite shortstops.

"He has a .686 OPS and has yet to hit a home run this year," wrote Eng. "If Bichette is now more Luis Arraez than Derek Jeter he may not be worth the $200 million contract that he's seeking. As a result the Jays may have no choice but to move him at the trade deadline to recoup some valuable assets for the future as opposed to losing him for nothing. While his value may not be what it once was, Toronto would be smart to try to get something for him at the deadline if they're out of contention by the end of July."

The Blue Jays just committed $500 million to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over the next 14 seasons. Bichette has been a consistent power threat from the shortstop position, but if that is no longer the case, the Blue Jays would be hesitant to give him a lucrative contract.

Willy Adames, who is one of the best power-hitting shortstops in baseball, signed a $182 million deal last winter. If Bichette is looking for a similar deal, the Blue Jays would be wise to trade half a season of his control for a young prospect.
