The 2026 MLB Trade Deadline is quickly approaching, as it is less than two weeks.
With this, trade activity around the league is only going to continue to pick up.
The Chicago Cubs will be a team to keep an eye on between now and the deadline. They should be among the league's most aggressive buyers, as they are among the top teams in the National League right now. Due to this, they should be looking to upgrade their group as they look to go on a real run this fall.

In a recent article for ESPN, insider Buster Olney argued that the Cubs' biggest need at the deadline is to improve their pitching.
"The Chicago Cubs' pre-deadline trade need is simple: Pitching, pitching and more pitching," Olney wrote. "'It's not like it's a secret,' one source said earlier this week. The Cubs have had 30 injured list stints this year and 26 of those have been pitchers, with everyone from Cade Horton to Justin Steele to Edward Cabrera going down."

...
Given the injury trouble that the Cubs have had this season, it is easy to understand why Olney is urging them to add to their pitching staff. Every contender needs to have good pitching and a lot of depth, so it would be wise for the Cubs to add to their rotation.
It would be significant if the Cubs could bring in a star pitcher or two to solidify their rotation ahead of the playoffs. Olney mentioned Robbie Ray, Clay Holmes, Freddy Peralta, and Kevin Gausman as potential targets for Chicago. However, these are only a few starters who could make sense for the Cubs. Other trade candidates who would be strong additions for the Cubs to bring in include Tarik Skubal, Joe Ryan, Reid Detmers, Casey Mize, and Jose Soriano.
Nevertheless, all eyes should be on the Cubs as we continue to get closer to the deadline. It is clear that they need to improve their pitching, so it would not be surprising if they are aggressive.
