The New York Mets had a few breakout stars in their starting pitching rotation a year ago. Luis Severino, Jose Quintana, and Sean Manaea looked more like the pitchers they used to be than the pitchers everybody expected them to be this year.

But now this trio of breakout starters are all free agents. And the Mets haven't been heavily linked to re-sign any of them just yet, though things could still change.

Instead, most projections are indicating the Mets will look to add a few top free agents, potentially even somebody like Corbin Burnes.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report predicted the Mets would sign free agent pitcher Yusei Kikuchi to a three-year contract worth $45 million this offseason.

"Kikuchi's 2024 season got off a rough start in Toronto. Through 22 starts, he had a 4.75 ERA and had given up 125 hits in 115.2 innings," Rymer wrote. "Then the Houston Astros got their hooks in him and, well, the rest is history. He finished with a 2.70 ERA, 76 strikeouts, 14 walks, and only 42 hits allowed in 60 innings. They turned his slider into one of the best breaking balls in MLB, and now he stands to profit."

Giving Kikuchi $15 million AAV would be very fair and it's something the Mets wouldn't struggle to afford.

He's a top-tier second or third starting pitcher and with the Mets being connected to a few aces in free agency, he wouldn't need to be an ace in New York.
