The New York Mets made the biggest splash in free agency when they signed Juan Soto to a historic 15-year, $765 million deal. They added Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes as well but could add another elite pitcher to their team.
FanSided's Noah Wright predicted the Mets would go after Tanner Scott of the San Diego Padres in free agency.
"If the Mets go big in free agency on a reliever, then Tanner Scott should be the guy," wrote Wright. "Scott has broken out in a big way over the last two years. He has cemented himself as one of, if not baseball's best reliever right now. On top of that, he fills the void of a quality left-handed pitcher the Mets very much need."

Scott was an All-Star for the first time in his career last season and is looking to cash in as a free agent. Spotrac projects him to earn a four-year, $65 million deal in free agency. Scott comes with a hefty price, but recent reports of the Mets potentially moving on from their pursuit of Pete Alonso could mean they have money to spend.
According to SNY's Andy Martino, the Mets have accepted that Alonso will not be back with the team in 2025.
"The Mets have pivoted to plan B, post-Alonso," Martino wrote on X. "They now consider it the most likely outcome that Alonso will sign elsewhere. They add Winker and will add a reliever, possibly a top one."
Scott posted a 1.75 ERA in 72 games last season. He set a career-high in saves with 22. Over the last three seasons, he has a 2.71 ERA, 54 saves and 278 strikeouts. The Mets would not even need him to close games. He could serve as the setup man for Edwin Díaz and be an insurance policy if he struggles again.
