The New York Mets had an ugly 2026 season, and one of the reasons for it was their shaky pitching.

The Mets should be looking to upgrade their starting rotation this offseason because of it. Now, during the early days of the offseason, the Mets are already being linked to a star trade candidate pitcher.

In a recent article for CBS Sports, Dayn Perry urged the Mets to trade for Seattle Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert this offseason.

Logan Gilbert

With questions about Gilbert's future in Seattle coming up, it makes sense that the Mets are being linked to him. He would be a very good addition to the front half of the Mets' starting rotation if acquired. This is because he is a proven star pitcher who has been impactful for several seasons now.

Gilbert was once again very good for the Mariners this season. In 32 games for Seattle, he had a 12-11 record, a 3.73 ERA, and 205 strikeouts. He has also had an ERA under 4.00 in each of his last five MLB seasons. With this, he would provide the Mets with some much-needed stability if they successfully acquired him from the Mariners.

It will be interesting to see if the Mets can strike a deal for Gilbert this offseason. The fit looks very good on paper, as New York desperately needs a boost right now.
