The energy was palpable when Team USA took on Team Mexico on Monday night in the World Baseball Classic third pool play game for each team, with both entering the matchup at 2-0.
Mexico held strong early until Aaron Judge launched a two-run home run, followed by a three-run blast from Roman Anthony in the same inning to push the U.S. ahead 5-0 after three frames.
The United States did not score again the rest of the game, while Mexico chipped away behind Jarren Duran to plate three runs. Mexico entered the eighth and ninth innings with a chance to rally and even put the tying run on base, but failed to convert, ultimately falling 5-3.

Following the matchup, Mexico manager Benji Gil made it clear that not only does he want to face the U.S. again — which would likely have to come in the championship — but he also believes his team would win the rematch.
“I hope we play the U.S. again. That would be awesome. I would be ecstatic to face them again,” Gil said. “It’s probably the championship, right? You know what? I want to face them more than I want anything else in the world.
“I think we’ll end up 1-1 against the U.S. this tournament, and Mexico won’t lose again until three years from now.”

Someone else added, “Sounds like a sore loser. Does he know the Pool B runner-up would have to go through Team Japanin the semis (assuming both advance)?”
Another person wrote, “Someone tell him, to do that, you have to make the championship game.”
“Someone tell him he’s gotta worry about Team Italy first,” one more fan commented
