The Baltimore Orioles are heading into the offseason in clear need of pitching help.

Due to this, it would not be surprising in the slightest if the Orioles look to add a new impactful pitcher to their starting rotation. It is essential for them to do so if they hope to compete in the very challenging American League East.

Now, with the offseason getting underway, the Orioles are being linked to a top free agent pitcher.

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Tim Kelly predicted that the Orioles will sign starting pitcher Clay Holmes in free agency to a two-year, $48 million contract with a $20 million club option for the 2029 season.

"Even if there are things to like about Shane Baz, Kyle Bradish and Brandon Young, the O's need to make at least one external addition to their rotation this offseason. Holmes would be a good place to start," Kelly wrote.

With the Orioles needing pitching help, it would be understandable if they pursued Holmes. He would have the potential to be a very good addition to their starting rotation. This is because the two-time All-Star has been an effective pitcher for multiple years now.

Holmes appeared in 18 games this season split between the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs, where he had a 6-8 record and a 3.29 ERA. This marked the seventh year in a row that Holmes had a 3.60 ERA or lower. With this, he is very reliable and exactly the kind of pitcher that a team like the Orioles should target.
