Trade speculation around A's pitcher Mason Miller reached new levels Wednesday night, and the club pulled the trigger a day later.
With a few hours to go before the MLB trade deadline, the A's have apparently pulled off the blockbuster deal that nobody thought possible.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the San Diego Padres are acquiring Miller and starter J.P. Sears in a monster trade that sends top prospect Leo De Vries back to the Athletics, alongside three pitchers.

Miller has four additional years of club control on his contract and has been one of the best pitchers in baseball for the last two seasons. He strikes batters out at an incredible rate and provides a dominant force at the backend of games.
Miller joins star closer Robert Suarez at the back end of games for the Padres. However, as MLB insider Buster Olney noted, the move for Miller and Sears makes Suarez and Dylan Cease expendable in a potential trade for the Padres.
For the A's, the addition of De Vries is massive. He's one of the best prospects in baseball with the potential to develop into a superstar over the next few years.
The full trade package sees Miller and Sears going to the Padres in exchange for prospects De Vries, Braden Nett, Henry Baez, and Eduarniel Nuñez.
Nett, the Padres' No. 3 prospect, is an MLB-ready arm who's dominated minor league baseball since being drafted. He's likely going to join the A's rotation from day one with the team. He features a five-pitch mix with a dominant fastball and solid command.
Baez has been one of the best pitching prospects in the Padres' system this year. He holds a sub-2.00 ERA in 20 starts while holding a WHIP of 1.00.
Nuñez has been solid each step of his minor league career. He cracked the Padres' bullpen before the trade. The righty will likely slot into the bullpen as a middle relief option in Sacramento.
