The Philadelphia Phillies won their fourth series in a row by defeating the New York Mets on Tuesday and they've come out on top in nine of their last 15 games.
That record is particularly impressive considering that they have been without franchise ace Zack Wheeler in that span. The team announced that the pitcher would miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with venous thoracic outlet syndrome.
Wheeler was diagnosed after the Phillies found a blood clot near his throwing shoulder. Even though he had the clot removed, he will require an additional surgery before his recovery and hopeful return to the mound for the Phillies can proceed.

On Tuesday, in an interview with several reporters relayed by On Pattison's Tim Kelly, Phillies manager Rob Thomson revealed that no date has been set for that procedure and he announced there's been a setback related to the blood thinners that Wheeler is taking.

...
"There's some reasons in there, I think they're blood thinners," Thomson said in a video shared by On Pattison. "I don't know exactly but there's a reason why they have to wait."
Though Thomson wasn't able to provide many specifics on the delay for Wheeler's surgery, any setback is unfortunate news for Phillies fans. The team has provided a six-to-eight-month timeline for the pitcher's recovery, which could see him back for opening day next year at the earliest.
But any delays could mean that Wheeler misses a significant chunk of next season. And, of course, any complications with something as serious as a blood clot can have ramifications off the field as well.
All told, fans are hoping that the setback isn't a serious one.
