The Boston Red Sox came up short in their free-agent pursuit of outfielder Juan Soto. President of baseball operations Craig Breslow is still on the hunt for an ace to fortify his pitching staff. Crochet was named an All-Star for the first time in 2024. He posted a 6-12 record with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 209 strikeouts in 146 innings of work. The White Sox are hoping to find a trade partner for the 25-year-old this offseason. How could the Red Sox get a deal done?
FanSided's Zach Pressnell proposed the following four-player swap:
- Red Sox receive: left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet
- White Sox receive: outfielder Wilyer Abreu, outfielder Miguel Bleis and right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts
Abreu is fresh off finishing sixth in American League Rookie of the Year Award voting and winning his first Gold Glove Award. MLB.com ranks Fitts as Boston's 13th-best prospect. The right-handed hurler made his big-league debut in 2024, posting a 1.74 ERA in 20 2/3 innings. Bleis is the organization's eighth-best prospect and finished his season in High-A.
Crochet is estimated to earn $2.9 million next season and is under team control via arbitration through 2026. However, Spotrac estimates his market value for a long-term deal at six years and $130 million.
