The MLB offseason started on Thursday, and the Boston Red Sox have already made their first trade during it.
The Red Sox have announced that they have traded outfielder Nate Eaton to the Athletics in exchange for minor league pitcher Jareth Rayo.
Eaton getting traded by the Red Sox is a little surprising, as the 29-year-old had not been discussed much in the rumor mill. Although this is the case, he is now a member of the Athletics with this move.

Eaton should have a chance to receive more consistent playing time on the A's, as they have a weaker roster than the Red Sox. With Eaton being able to play multiple positions, he could end up being a solid utility player for the A's after this move.
In 24 games this season with the Red Sox, Eaton posted one home run, six RBIs, and a .160 batting average. This is after he had one home run, four RBI, and a .296 batting average in 41 games for Boston in 2025.
With Rayo, the Red Sox have added an 18-year-old pitching prospect to their system. The 6-foot-3 righty appeared in 11 minor league games for the Dominican Summer League Athletics this year, where he had a 1-1 record and a 5.50 ERA.
