The Boston Red Sox recently signed former No. 1 overall prospect Roman Anthony to an eight-year, $130 million extension.

Anthony is already showing why he was so highly regarded as a prospect. He is playing a big role in the Red Sox's postseason chase, and his manager gave him a glowing comparison.

"Who he reminds me of, it's hard," Cora said, per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. "I don't want to say (Barry) Bonds, of course. Probably (Juan) Soto, without the flashiness, early on. It's a good at-bat. He's not going to chase. Even when he doesn't get hits, you're like, holy (expletive), that's a good at-bat."

Anthony is slashing .280/.400/.435 through 57 games with the Red Sox, but a comparison to Soto is no small feat. Soto recently signed a 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets.

He has already led a team to a World Series win and was a key player in the New York Yankees' run to the World Series last season. Soto is a four-time All-Star, five-time Silver Slugger and a batting champion.

Soto is still only 26 years old and is already one of the best players in baseball. Anthony could be on a similar track, and the comparison from his manager speaks to how important he is to the Red Sox's future.

The Red Sox kept Anthony from hitting free agency a few years earlier by extending him. Unlike Soto, he will not hit free agency until he is 29, at the earliest.
