The Boston Red Sox recently made quite the shocking move. During Roman Anthony's breakout rookie season, the Red Sox agreed to terms on an eight-year, $130 million contract extension that will keep the star prospect in Boston for nearly a decade.
This kind of move during the season is a bit rare, but the Red Sox haven't been shy about making blockbuster moves this season. Following this extension, the Red Sox will need to make a few more big decisions.
FanSided's Lior Lampert recently predicted the Red Sox would trade top outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia after signing Anthony to this huge extension.

"Boston's minor-league infrastructure continues to churn out talented outfielders. First, it was Jarren Duran, then Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu segued into Anthony," Lampert wrote. "Garcia, who's been tearing it up for Triple-A Worcester, is seemingly next on the list, though the Red Sox don't have room for him.
"Garcia is batting .312/.380/.596 with 15 homers, 47 RBIs and a dazzling .976 OPS in 218 at-bats at the Triple-A level this year. The No. 2 prospect in Boston's farm system (and No. 88 in the Pipeline's ranks) appears to be ready for the Majors. Alas, as many wondered about Anthony's call-up, where will the Red Sox put him, and at the expense of whom? The latter, Rafaela and Abreu are mainstays, making this a tough group to crack."
Garcia is in quite a tough spot. He's very talented and one of the best outfield prospects in baseball. The youngster is also having a very good season at Triple-A.
But there's no room for him in Boston, barring an injury. And unless the Red Sox have an injury or two next year, there won't be room for him in the outfield then either.
That makes him the most obvious trade candidate in the organization. After committing to Anthony, it's clear the next move is going to be trading one or two of the organization's outfielders, and Garcia would be the perfect centerpiece in a trade to acquire an ace starting pitcher.
