The Boston Red Sox are in a tough spot. They brought in the talent to win this season, but their division is so tough that they've still fallen behind.

After trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, the Red Sox could either wave the white flag on the year or commit to winning without their former star.

Seeing the Red Sox buy at the trade deadline, especially for controllable talent, would make the most sense.

Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN recently suggested the Red Sox were one of the best fits in a blockbuster trade for Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta this season.

"Peralta has been a steady presence for years, averaging 140 innings pitched with a 3.49 ERA over the past four seasons," They wrote. "He's on track to do that again, with his heavily used fastball coming in at a career-high average velo of 94.9 mph this season. He has an ultra-cheap $8 million option for 2026."

Peralta will likely be one of the better starting pitchers on the market if the Brewers place him there. This seems a bit more likely as the Brewers battle to stay afloat while the Chicago Cubs dominate the division.

Peralta, 29, has another year of team control next season and has put together an excellent campaign. His ERA is well below 3.00, and the righty could be headed for his second career All-Star Game.

The Red Sox would benefit tremendously from adding him at the top of the starting rotation beside Garrett Crochet. This would give Boston a right-handed and left-handed ace to help push the team closer to the New York Yankees in the American League East.

It would be quite an expensive move, but it's one that would be worth it in the grand scheme of things.
