The New York Yankees desperately need to add starting pitching ahead of the trade deadline. Their rotation has been destroyed by injuries.

Clarke Schmidt and Gerrit Cole are out for the season with elbow injuries, while Luis Gil hasn't pitched yet because of a lat strain.

The Yankees were reportedly interested in Chris Paddack, but he was recently traded to the Detroit Tigers. New York was also seemingly interested in Seth Lugo, but he's since signed a contract extension with the Kansas City Royals.

Pat Ragazzo of On SI recently reported that the Yankees were emerging as the early frontrunners in the trade sweepstakes to acquire Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May this week.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Dustin May

May, 27, has had quite a roller coaster of a season. At times, he's been excellent, but he's also struggled with command. On the year, he holds a 4.85 ERA, 4.69 FIP, and 1.34 WHIP.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it's likely the Dodgers will look to trade him as they add to their own pitching rotation. Since he's expendable to Los Angeles, struggling a bit, and on an expiring contract, May likely wouldn't demand a lot of prospect capital for the Yankees to land him.

If the Dodgers can land a starting pitcher on the trade block while getting some of their arms back from the injured list, trading May would be an obvious move to make. He's bound to be the odd man out when everybody is healthy, so it would make sense for the team to cut ties with him while they can.
